After completing the medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College in 1993, he did his initial residency training in Ophthalmology (MS) from Guru Nanak Eye Centre. He undertook his Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in the UK. During this time he undertook three years of clinical and lab research in inherited retinal diseases as a Wellcome Trust funded Fellow from Leeds University. Following the core Ophthalmology training in New Delhi India and UK, he did his Advanced Sub-Specialty Training in Medical Retina from Leeds (Yorkshire Training Programme). He furthered his sub-specialist training in Medical retina with Medical Retina Fellowship from Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2008.

He is a Fellow of Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London & Surgeons Edinburgh, and International member of Association for Research in Vision & Ophthalmology. He is also on the Specialist register with General Medical Council.

He currently holds NHS post as a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he was appointed in 2010. He is also the Director of Medical Retina Fellowship Programme at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
